An Icebox Intake Increases the Performance of a 1996 Dodge Cummins

Want to hear something funny? Here we are as the new owners of Icebox Intakes for over 45 days and we didn’t even have an Icebox Intake on one of our diesel trucks….Why? Well because we were trying hard to get our inventory levels up and to also fill orders for those same intakes. And we had a lot to do in order to set our new shop up. But listen to this.

When Barbara and I got together in 2000 she had a 1996 Dodge Cummins pickup and I had my 1999 Ford Powerstroke 7.3L. There was never any question that I liked my Powerstroke much better because it had more power and pickup. Both trucks were stock but for some reason the Dodge just didn’t have any guts. In fact I wouldn’t attempt to pass other vehicles in most situations because I didn’t trust it even though the Cummins was in excellent shape otherwise.

So about a week and a half ago we put in a Gen 2 Icebox Cold Air Intake with one of our S&B IB-4510 pre-oiled filters installed. But at the same time we let Mark borrow the truck when his transmission line on his Gen 2 Dodge Cummins broke. So here we are with our first Icebox Intakes installed….and we own the company….and can’t even take it for a test drive….ha isn’t that a hoot?

Finally yesterday we got the Dodge back and got to drive it for the first time and wow it really is a different truck. It’s hard to imagine how much better the truck performs with the Cold Air Intake installed and that is the only modification this original 1996 Dodge Cummins has.

Now here is what we noticed. The truck has more power and the throttle has much better response. We do notice that you can hear the turbo a bit more than you could before, in fact I don’t know that you could really hear it before. It’s not too loud, you just notice it now more than before.

So we don’t have any results on if it gets better gas mileage or that it has more horse power now and we make no wild claims on either of those but I can share that I feel certain that it has much better performance. And if I can keep my foot off of the throttle, enjoying all the new performance that it has now, then it very well will get better mpg’s….<smile>

You can see that everything is original except for the new Icebox Intake that we installed with the S&B IB-4510 filter

This just proves what we knew to be true about the benefits of a cold air intake and why people who know performance say that “the first thing you do for better performance is to install a cold air intake”. And we are hoping that you seriously consider one of our Icebox Cold Air Intakes for your diesel truck!

In fact a customer just last week ordered two intakes for their business and during our conversation mentioned that he and friends had actually taken other big name manufacturers cold air intakes off of their vehicles to put one of our Icebox Intakes on and immediately reduced the EGT’s by up to 400 degrees. Now I am only sharing what was shared with me and am not making any claims that I have not seen myself personally but they were so happy that they purchased two more and are waiting on a new intake to come out.

Well I have to go because I need to go and test drive the cummins cause it is now a much more fun truck to drive! Yeah! Later….Barb said I have to go an haul hay so I am taking the Dodge!
